MIDDLESEX WOMEN'S SIDE TO FEATURE TWO WORLD CUP WINNERS

Middlesex Cricket are delighted to confirm that World Cup winner Fran Wilson will be returning to Lord’s as part of the Middlesex Women’s team next Tuesday, 24^th April. Middlesex Women will be taking on an MCC XI as part of the inaugural Women’s Cricket Day at Lords, in a T20 game starting at 1.30pm at the Home of Cricket.

It will be a day of firsts, not only will this be the first time that Middlesex Women have played a fixture on the main pitch at their county home, but Wilson will be returning for the first time since lifting the Women’s World Cup here last July. It will also be the first time that Middlesex stalwart Beth Morgan gets to pull on a county shirt at Lord’s having herself lifted the Women’s T20 World Cup at the ground in 2009. Another first will be for Hayleigh Brennan, Middlesex’s overseas signing, as she joins the squad for the first time and plays her first match on English soil.

Since being part of the victorious England Women’s side in that memorable final, Fran has been away with England to Australia and India, performing consistently in the middle order as England prepare for a busy summer.

Speaking ahead of what will be an historic day Fran said...

“Tuesday is going to be a fantastic advert for the women’s game. Lord’s is a special ground and even more so personally because the last time I played there was when we won the World Cup. It will be very special to be involved in such a landmark occasion with my county team mates and support staff who have worked so hard over the last few years to make it possible.”

Middlesex Cricket Head of Women’s Cricket, Danni Warren, reinforced the importance of having Fran available to play in the match...

“It is always fantastic to have Fran available to pull on a Middlesex shirt, she brings so much to our group on and off the field. However, on a day such as this with over 5,000 school children filling out Lords the impact that she can have on the next generation of players and fans is huge. We are really grateful to England for releasing her for the match.”
