FIVE MIDDLESEX PLAYERS TO COMPETE IN THE HUNDRED
At last night’s historic player draft for the Hundred, four Middlesex players were picked up by franchise teams for the ECB’s new competition due to start in July 2020.
The four players will join Eoin Morgan in the competition – who, as one of the local icons, had already been selected to represent the Lord’s based franchise London Spirit.
With 24 spots already allocated to England internationals and local icons, 96 spots were still up for grabs last night, and with over five hundred players putting themselves into the draft for selection competition for places was fierce.
The first Middlesex player to be picked up in last night’s draft was Tom Helm, chosen by Edgbaston based franchise Birmingham Phoenix for £75,000, as draft pick number 41.
Next to be selected was Dawid Malan, who will represent the Trent Rockets at Trent Bridge as pick number 81, going for £40,000.
Nathan Sowter was picked up next, and will head to the Kia Oval, selected by the Oval Invincibles as pick number 101 for £30,000, with John Simpson finishing things off, who will head to Durham as the Northern Superchargers final squad selection, as pick number 110 for £30,000.
The Lord’s based London Spirit franchise, with Head Coach Shane Warne in the hot seat, has selected the following fifteen-man squad:
