A FOCUS ON - HORNSEY CC

This week we spoke to Hornsey CC about the ‘N8 Knights’ side that they ran alongside neighbours North London CC in this year’s U17 Middlesex Youth Cup competition.

How has the N8 Knights team benefited Hornsey CC?

The team N8 Knights was named as the U17 team to enter the Middlesex Youth Cup last season, using players from Hornsey and North London CC. Both clubs decided that it would not be possible to field a team on their own that would be able to compete throughout the summer holidays, which meant that a joint team was created. With so many clubs in such close proximity to each other, there is the potential to create an incredible cricketing experience between clubs, and the first experiment of that partnership has proved successful. The aim is that this can be expanded going forward, and with the N8 Knights team reaching the knockout stages of this summer’s Youth Cup it has got off to a good start. The Transition Competitions are important to the club because they provide an essential bridge between Junior and Senior cricket. Leaving the Junior section and becoming a regular part of the Senior club can be a daunting prospect, so having these competitions help the transition bringing many benefits to both the individual players and the clubs themselves.

What else happens at Hornsey CC?

With a proud history of 150 years, the club offers something for everyone. The members are friendly, sociable, and inclusive, who share Hornsey’s vision to provide a sporting and social environment for all to enjoy the wonderful game of cricket. The club’s First Eleven play in the MCCL Premier League, and there are four other Saturday teams that provide an opportunity for all levels. With a picturesque ground, outdoor nets, and tennis courts, the club has many attractions away from the competitive cricket that is played throughout the summer. On Friday evenings during the season the Junior club nights create a very friendly atmosphere to start the weekend.

What next?
