ENFIELD CC GROUNDSPERSON VACANCY
Enfield Cricket Club, based in North London, has a vacancy for a full time groundsperson to take charge of their very prestigious ground, which includes a 16 wicket cricket square, outfield, three grass tennis courts and three artificial cricket nets. The club wishes to retain its reputation for high standard facilities. Applicants should have significant responsibility for and experience of cricket ground preparation and maintenance.
The role involves sole responsibility for the ground, some pavilion maintenance and social areas.
JOB DESCRIPTION
REPORTS TO:
- Chair of Enfield Cricket Club Ground Committee.
JOB PURPOSE:
- To ensure the effective maintenance and development of the nominated amenities and playing surfaces for club members.
- To be responsible for the provision of playing surfaces that are safe and have a consistent quality. The position does not receive technical guidance from a line manager.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ground Duties...
- Sole responsibility for the preparation and maintenance of cricket square, outfield, grass, non-turf net areas and three grass tennis courts for club members to an excellent standard. Prepare, implement and monitor weekly, monthly and annual maintenance programmes to ensure the required standard of surface presentation.
- Have knowledge and the experience in undertaking end of season renovations on cricket squares and tennis courts.
- Is up to date with the latest dimensions and regulations in regards to junior cricket.
- To estimate the resources required for work projects and to make recommendations on best use of playing surfaces, including production of a costed annual ground budget.
- Have a developed awareness of Health and Safety regulations.Possess a sound understanding of legislation relating to chemicals and dangerous substances. Ensure safe working practices at all times.
- Ensure all equipment is correctly maintained and services. Support the efficient use of resources.
- Conduct basic risk assessments, make recommendations and respond to emergencies. Collect and record data on the playing surface environment.
- Maintain good communication with Cricket and Tennis captains, and other members of the Ground Committee.
- Preparation of the ground for other sports events and recreational use as directed.
- Maintenance to a good standard of the remainder of the ground, including the ground surrounds, car park, sheds and the folly/garden area.
- Maintenance of sightscreens, score-box, storage area, tennis porta cabin, groundsman’s garage, etc.
Pavilion Duties...
- To be a formal key holder for the Club and to open up for planned lets during normal working hours.
- Bar: to take weekly delivery of bar stock, perform some key bar maintenance tasks such as assisting with bottling up, removal of rubbish and empty bottles etc. and weekly washing the pipes and the glass washer.
- To ensure that the pavilion is appropriately set out for the daily Montessori Nursery. This involves moving furniture out of the club bar for both the Nursery and at times other lettings and Club social events.
- Maintenance Work: to be done largely in winter, as part of a jobs programme agreed with the Chair of the Ground Committee.
- To act as a liaison point with cleaners, visitors and general committee members as necessary.
PERSONAL SPECIFICATION:
Essential...
- Suitable qualifications:
- Completed IOG training level 1&2 and working toward IOG Level 3 training on management techniques and principles to produce a safe and consistent surface.
- National/Scottish Vocational Qualification Level 2 Sports Turf Maintenance; or IOG National Technical Certificate; or BTEC First Diploma/First Certificate in Horticulture; or National Certificate in Turf Science and Sports Ground Management; or City and Guilds National Certificate in Horticulture.
- Understanding of the games of cricket and tennis.
- No less than 2 years prior grounds person experience, involving the preparation and maintenance of cricket squares and outfields.
- Clear understanding of relevant Health and Safety legislation.
- Formal training in manual handling and risk assessment.
- A valid driving licence.
Desirable...
- Pavilion maintenance skills and experience.
- PA1 and PA6 spraying certificates.
- IOG membership holder.
GENERAL CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:
- The Club is willing to consider a Short-Term appointment fixed from May 3 - Sept 30th, but a permanent role is preferred by the Club.
- 28 days holiday (including public holidays)
- 36 working hours a week (average per week but variable to suit requirements of the season and subject to change with agreement by the Grounds’ Committee and approved in writing).
- Weekend work will be required during the cricket season (April-September), in particular Saturday mornings and some Sunday mornings.
- Time off in lieu to be agreed in advance with the Chair of the Grounds Committee.
- Provision for continuous development of grounds care skills and knowledge, which may include time off to attend IOG training programmes/support with prior agreement from the Grounds’ Committee.
SALARY BANDING:
- Based on GMA recommended salary scales for Groundsperson Skilled / Sole Charge Criteria.
