Apart from a few years in ‘exile’, as a member of Hampshire CCC’s playing staff in the early 80’s, Chris Goldie has been involved in Middlesex cricket ever since he first played for Middlesex Colts in 1974.
He came through the ranks of Middlesex’s youth sides before joining the county’s professional staff in 1979. Later that year he went up to Cambridge University, returning to Middlesex in 1980. The county released him at the end of the 1980 season but following two successful seasons as Cambridge’s wicket-keeper, he joined Hampshire in 1983 as understudy to Bobby Parks, a role he performed for 4 seasons.
Throughout his time at Hampshire, he continued to play for Richmond CC, the club that he joined as a 10 year old. Having made his Middlesex League 1st XI debut in 1976 as a 15 year old, he continued to play 1st XI League cricket for the club until the end of the 2007 season, during a career which saw him play almost 400 1st XI Middlesex League games, probably more than any other player in the County.
He was captain of the Middlesex League side which won the CCC’s Inter-League Cup in 1988 and went on to captain and manage the Middlesex Cricket Board during the 1990’s and 2000’s. He has also toured the USA with the MCC (twice) and Australia and Hong Kong with the Club Cricket Conference.
Off the field, Chris has been an active administrator at Club and County level. Chairman of Richmond since 2002, as well as a Director of the Middlesex Cricket Board, he was elected to Middlesex’s Main Committee in 1998. He stepped down from the Committee in 2017 but has remained Chairman of the Middlesex Cricket Trust.
A fundraising consultant by profession, he was engaged by MCC to review and reorganise the MCC Foundation.
